Question 2 how effective is the combination of your main production and auxiliary task?

This is our final Trailer. It is for our film "Footsteps and Tyre Tracks" which tell a story of romance and tragedy as Lucas must track down his mentally ill girlfriend Emily who has ran away due to an accident that induced amnesia.

How will we attract an audience?

Main Product:

The point of a trailer is to entice and excite the audience, by showing them snippets of a film that is being released. This is a full length trailer (3;30) and not a teaser (60-90 seconds) in which more narrative is included and is released around 6 months in advance.

We have created a lengthy trailer of three minutes and thirty seconds to allow us to create this digetic  world and portray the characters and their reasons for existing so. Through they are introduced to the male and female protagonists (James Green) and (Georgia Archer) and the respective supporting roles (Finn Doherty) and (Jess Stooke). The open and endearing natures of these characters will hopefully incline the audience to want to seek out more about the characters stories and experience the journey with them.

Ancillary Tasks:

Film poster - our poster is, in our opinion, a professional piece of work that is a believable film poster. The title is very prominent on the poster so the audience immediately know what the film is called. All the other important information that goes on professional posters (credits, reviews, production companies) is also listed, making it look presentable. The imagery is suitable for the genre and the natural woods, shining sun in the bright blue sky finished in a warm hue establishes the film nicely.

Magazine Front Cover - Much like our poster, we believe our front cover is done to a professional standard. We utilized a photography studio with a high end camera to ensure quality was not affected. In the rule of thirds the leading couple dominate the center block in which both faces can be clearly seen allowing a connection to be made with the audience and their tender emotions to be seen. The additional headlines are to evenly distribute the space of the front cover and also to draw the audience further in as gripping headlines tell about personal stories of the actors and the film. The colour scheme was warm and inviting with shades of reds and whites to be easy on the eyes yet still stand out from other consumer products. The insertion of a price and bar-code ensured a realistic look of a traditional magazine.

How are we attracting our audience?

Main Narrative Image

  • Our film "Footsteps and Tyre Tracks" is focused on a male and female protagonist that we are certain our target audience can relate to after extensive research.
  • Both are dealing with loss and that feeling of being incomplete and nit knowing what is needed.
  • Emily is also blighted with mental illness which is applicable to a number of teens nowadays. A number of teens are going through the same difficulties as the two main characters and so may recognize the challenges and want to see how our lovers overcome them.
Genre

  • Our film is a hybrid of a Teen and Romantic Comedy which widens our audience appeal, It is also a time where films of this genre are thriving and we can take advantage of the huge interest in this particular genre at the moment.
  • Our target audience is both make and female from 15 - 24. We tried to keep them interested by having teenagers the main characters and made sure not to heavily follow the social realism route to fulfill our desires of a lighthearted enjoyable film.
  • People form all different walks of life are represented positively in our film, from the homeless to the mentally ill to working and middle class. Through this we can attract a mass mainstream audience.

Listening To our Audience:

That is not the first rendition of our trailer, or poster, or magazine front cover, They have all undergone many transformations and have partially been sculpted by our target audience and their feedback which can be seen documented on my own or my teams blogs.

What we liked about our Trailer:

Main Product

  • We like how in the first 20 seconds the audience can see how compatible the two leads are through the variety of shots as they skillfully establish their relationship and the motivation for Lucas to go after Emily when she runs off. This also allows sympathy for the protagonists as the audience are endeared to them at an early stage.
  • The tone and pacing of the trailer is something I take pride in, being able to seamlessly blend comedy and tragedy and make it feel natural and mirroring a profession trailer of the same genre.
  • The tracks used perfectly compliment the action on screen and help subtly evoke emotions from the viewers. We feel the non diegetic sounds matches the narrative we're trying to portray.
Ancillary Tasks

  • The poster and magazine front cover both are identical to professional grade products and have been proven to be appealing to our specified target audience.
What we would improve:

After the constant work on our film and advertising, there is not much we could think to improve, so as a general rule to all three the main thing we would take into consideration is more time to gather a wider variety of shots so we would not have to cut corners or be restricted by the limited amount of shots and imagery we had in the end.
