Herbert Blumer 1950
He suggests that "Audiences come from all walks of life, and social strata, may include people of different class position, vocation, cultural attainment and wealth". He talks about the way that social media has changed everything, as audiences now have a lot more of a say, as they used to be very passive.
Jen Ang 1991
She detailed that media producers have an imaginary entity in mind before the construction of a media product.
"Audiences only exist as an imaginary entity, an abstraction, constructed from the vantage point of the institution, in the interest of the institution"
She states that audience hood is becoming an ever more multifaceted, fragmented and diversified repertoire of practices and experiences.
- This is true for our film, as we are going to Universal for funding, in the hope they will produce our film, they have an extremely large and varied audience. We have targeted our film at young adults between 12-24 but we feel that because it is family audience friendly, our audience would be much more varied, and families would all sit down together and watch out film.
