Fault in our stars
- voice over- the voice over provides a less formal film and also immediately shows the audience we are included in their journey and we are meant to be feeling the emotions the main protagonists are feeling at any point during the film.
- Change in music- The change in music from high to low pitches and tempos also allows the audience to know, explicitly, what is going on in particular scene and for a trailer, to realise what emotions you will be feeling whilst watching this film in the cinemas.
- Breaking fourth wall- Breaking the fourth wall allows the audience in on the action and lets them see every part of the journey that the character is going through.
- Sad story line- A sad story line with an unexpected ending adds tension and an additional mood to the mix of emotion as an audience you feel. You are made to think about your own life and how much you take for granted.
Ashby
- upbeat soundtrack- An upbeat soundtrack gives the movie an instant 'happy go lucky' kind of feel and an uplifting inspiration feeling to it. All the characters are happy and even though twists and turns may occur during the film a happy ending will occur.
- text introducing situation- This gives an informal, comic book like feel to the film and adds to the conventions of a typical rom com.
- quirky male lead- The male lead is important to sympathise and follow his emotions with because normally we fall for the main girl character so for it to be a male is going against the codes and conventions of a rom com and is pushing the societies view on a typical ' girly' film.
