Film Festivals

There are many film festivals run to help people discover new indie movies and see early previews of big budget movies we plan to present our movie at one of the many film festivals so we can attract new people to our audience. here are a few examples:

 

Sundance
The most notorious is The Sundance Film Festival a program of the Sundance Institute, it is an American film festival that takes place annually in Utah. With 46,731 attendees in 2012, it is one of the largest independent film festivals in the United States.

Diary of a Teenage Girl

Young San Francisco teen Minnie Goetze (Bel Powley) ruminates on a new world of pleasure that has just opened up to her. Trouble is she just slept with her own mother’s (Kristen Wiig) boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgård).

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
Outcast high-schooler Greg (Thomas Mann) just wants to make it through senior year hiding out during lunch in his history teacher’s office and making irreverent re-creations of art-house cinema (A Sockwork Orange,Senior Citizen Cane) with his best friend Earl (newcomer RJ Cutler). That is, until his mom (Connie Britton) commands him to befriend a female classmate who’s been diagnosed with leukemia (Olivia Cooke).

New York Film Festival

This has been a major film festival since it began in 1963 in New York. The films are selected by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The non-competitive festival, sometimes abbreviated as NYFF, was established by Amos Vogel and Richard Roud. The festival has said that films are selected exclusively on their merits. However a few prominent directors regularly have their films screened at NYFF.

Brooklyn 

Saoirse Ronan, as vibrantly alive as a silent-screen heroine, plays Eilis, who leaves her native Ireland at the turn of the century, slowly builds a better life for herself, and is then called back home, to another possible future, in this lovely adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s novel

Steve Jobs

Danny Boyle and Aaron Sorkin joined forces to create this dynamically character-driven portrait of the brilliant man at the epicenter of the digital revolution, working from Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography and starring Michael Fassbender in the title role, Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, Jeff Daniels as John Sculley, Michael Stuhlbarg as Andy Hertzfeld, and Katherine Waterston as Chrisann Brennan.

The Lobster

In the future, single people are rounded up and sent to a seaside compound, given a finite number of days to find a match, and turned into animals if they fail. Welcome to the latest dark, dark comedy from absurdist Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos. Winner of a Cannes Jury Prize.

 

SXSW
Another popular film festival is South By South West SXSW which is a set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place early each year in mid-March in Austin Texas, United States. It began in 1987, and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year. In 2011, the conference lasted for 10 days with SXSW Interactive lasting for 5 days, Music for 6 days, and Film running concurrently for 9 days. This festival is for the larger budget films and attracts many fans.

BFI London Film Festival
The BFI London Film Festival (also known as just the London Film Festival) is the UK's largest public film event, screening more than 300 features, documentaries and shorts from almost 50 countries. The festival (the LFF), currently in its 58th year, is run every year in the second half of October under the umbrella of the British Film Institute. The Festival showcases the best of world cinema to champion creativity, originality, vision and imagination, and presents the finest contemporary international cinema from both established and emerging film-makers.
